II Lusophone Meeting
The main aim of the II Lusophone Competition Meeting was to develop and give continuity to the principles agreed at the I Lusophone Meeting, an initiative of the Competition Authority that took place in Rio de Janeiro from 28-29 June 2004. These principles of agreement are contained in the Declaration of Rio de Janeiro, as made available in the Competition Authority's Activities Report for 2004. In this context, the objectives chosen for the II Meeting were to evaluate the progress made in the last two years in reforming the framework for economic regulation and formulating the competition policy in each Portuguese-speaking country and, also, to contribute to the strengthening of the institutional framework, which is necessary for the promotion of more effective competition.
To attain these objectives, the programme of the II Meeting covered four fundamental topics, namely:
- Competition and economic development;
- Mitigation of the weight of regulation;
- Institutional development;
- Case studies on anti-competitive practices. Representatives at the highest level of the equivalent entities in Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, São Tomé and Príncipe, and Timor-Leste took part in the meeting.
It was decided to hold a III Lusophone Competition Meeting, organised in Luanda by Angola, in 2008.
