UNCTAD - United Nations Conference on Trade and Development

The Portuguese Competition Authority is a participant in the International Group of Experts on Competition Law and Policy that meets in Geneva for the purpose of continuing the analysis of the provisions contained in the "Set of Multilaterally-agreed Principles and Rules to Control Restrictive Trade Practices".

Ano 2007

The Portuguese Competition Authority participated in the VIII Session of the Intergovernmental Group of Experts on Competition Law and Policy that took place 17-19 July 2007.

This VIII Session was attended by delegations from over 70 countries and various international organisations and non-governmental organisations.

Among the topics on the agenda of this session, to which an important contribution was made by Portugal, which also held the Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the following are of particular significance:

  1. Review of the Model Law; studies related to the provisions of the UNCTAD Set of Principles and Rules
  2. Competition policy and the exercise of intellectual property rights
  3. Technical assistance by UNCTAD in the field of competition and consumer protection
  4. Competition at a national and international level: Energy
  5. Criteria for evaluating competition authorities

Ano 2006

The Portuguese Competition Authority took part in the meetings of the Ad-hoc Group of Experts on Competition Law and Policy and in the VII Session of the Intergovernmental Group of Experts on Competition Law and Policy that took place between 30 October and 2 November in Geneva.

Portuguese participation:
  1. The president of the Competition Authority presided over the peer review of competition policy in Tunisia;
  2. He presented a paper entitled The Relationship between Competition Authorities and Sector Regulators ? the Experience of the Portuguese Competition Authority - formato PDF, 35KB
  3. He presented the Leniency Programme in Portugal (formato PDF, 35KB) whose basic legislation was passed and published in 2006.
