European Competition Authorities – ECA

ECA (European Competition Authorities), founded in Amsterdam, Netherlands, in April 2001, is an informal association that provides a forum for discussion among competition authorities of the European Economic Area (EEA), including the EU Member States, the European Commission, European Free Trade Association (EFTA) Member States Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein and EFTA Surveillance Authority.

ECA aims at improving cooperation between competition agencies and fostering efficient competition law enforcement, at national and European levels, in particular regarding merger control. ECA organizes annual high level meetings among competition agencies – the ECA Annual Meetings. ECA has also developed activities in topical working groups.

ECA has a rotating tripartite presidency. In 2007 the AdC presided over the ECA troika, during which the PCA hosted the ECA Annual Meeting in Sintra.
