The European Competition Authorities — ECA, founded in 2001, is an informal association that serves as a forum for discussion by the competition authorities of the European Economic Area (EEA), which includes the Member States of the European Union, the European Commission, the EFTA States (European Free Trade Association) Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein, and the EFTA Supervisory Authority.
ECA’s purpose is to improve cooperation between competition authorities and to contribute to the efficient use of national and European competition rules, focusing on business mergers.
In 2007 the AdC organized the ECA Annual Meeting in Sintra.
Besides the ECA Annual Meetings, activities are also developed in cooperation in the control of merger operations between companies and in working groups.
