Competition talks

Nuno Cunha Rodrigues underlined the importance of competition in public procurement, in a recent podcast of the series CompCast – Competition Talks. The University of Lisbon’s School of Law professor highlighted the AdC’s role in the promotion of good practices by procurement agencies, the importance of detecting cartels, as well as the savings that fighting bid-rigging in public procurement could represent.

In the new podcast of the AdC – CompCast - Competition talks, Richard Whish Richard Whish, Emeritus Professor of Law at King’s College London, discussed "Hub and Spoke concerted practices - quid juris?”

In the new podcast of the AdC – CompCast - Competition talks, the Head of the Anti-Cartel Unit of the AdC, Jorge Ferreira, presents the Guide for Business Associations, which sets out guidance on behaviour to be avoided in order to ensure compliance with competition law. It also describes the outreach initiative that the AdC has carried out to raise awareness with the business community.
Business associations are vulnerable to infringements of competition law as they gather a large number of competitors from a given sector.

Julie Bon discussed the topic “Competition and innovation in retail banking” with Ana Sofia Rodrigues, Chief Economist of the AdC, in the new edition of the AdC’s podcast CompCast – Competition Talks.

"Giving consumers the choice of which energy provider to choose is not a sufficient condition. We have to ensure that these energy providers compete in an effective manner so that consumers pay the right prices for electricity."

Competition in electricity markets is the subject of the podcast with Natalia Fabra, specialised in Industrial Organisation mainly in matters of regulation and competition in electricity markets.

Natalia Fabra is an Associate Professor at the Economics Department of Carlos III University in Madrid, Guest Professor at the Barcelona Graduate School of Economics in the Masters program on Competition and Market Regulation since 2007.

Pedro Pita Barros, Professor of Economics at the Nova School of Business and Economics, is the recent interviewee of our series of podcasts, “CompCast - Competition Talks".
